Green festival marks 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi
Ancient food distribution festival resumes
The granaries, which were believed to have been located in Tran Thuong Hamlet, Nhan Dao Commune, Ly Nhan District in northern province of Ha Nam (50km to the south of Hanoi), were located on a site with a scarce population but good transportation links to various parts of the country.
From the place, boats could reach the Hong (Red) River and access Thang Long Citadel or the sea. Because of the location, Tran Hung Dao ordered the construction of six granaries to serve the nation in repulsing the second Mongol invasion in 1285.
Danang prepares the third International Fireworks Competition
On this occasion, the city will also organize a parade of flower floats, a Vietnamese craft village festival, a kite-flying competition, an exhibition of embroidered pictures, a photo exhibition on international fireworks, and an exhibition named "Danang 2010 – a new stage."
Sixth HCMC Tourism Festival to kick off in April
The 6th HCMC Tourism Festival will be held at 23/9 Cultural Park from April 8-11.During the festival, there will be a fair with a total of 150 stands, introducing tourist destinations, services and summer tour programmes of local travel agencies.
Other highlights will include a food festival, a contest to discover Saigon and art performances.
The festival is organised by HCMC’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the municipal Tourism Association.

Second International Kite Festival to kick off
The second International Kite Festival will be held at the Bien Dong Tourist Area in Vung Tau City from March 25-29, which is expected to attract participants from 30 countries around the world.On March 26, there will be a kite demonstration by 6 kite clubs from Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa, Nha Trang, Binh Thuan and the host.
At the event, 900 students will fly 1,000 kites to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi.

Hanoi Craft Week 2010 draws 500 villages
In addition to promoting exports, developing and improving the products of Hanoi craft villages, the week will promote the traditional cultures of the villages over the past 1,000 historic years.
It will also include other activities like a contest for artisans on a signature souvenir design for the millennium anniversary.
Visitors will have a chance to witness the process by which crafts are made, and even take part in the production themselves. The organising board will also arrange a tour of five outstanding craft villages in combination with other tourist sites around Hanoi.
Van Thanh to bring traditional foods, festivities to Saigonese
Chiem Thanh Long, Director of Binh Quoi Tourism Village, said this year’s program would add new dishes to the North region’s menu. For dishes of the Central region, Van Thanh will focus on dishes from Danang and Hoi An instead of promoting too many dishes of the whole region.
“We not only want to promote delicious dishes but also want to bring charms of rural markets, funny folk games, traditional music performances and images of trade villages to the city’s people,” Long said in a meeting to promote the program in Van Thanh on Friday.
Northeast ethnic groups to hold cultural festival
The 7th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Ethnic Groups in the Northeastern Region will be held in the northern midland province of Phu Tho from April 14-17 with the participation of 10 provinces in the region.This year’s festival is aimed at boosting solidarity among ethnic people in the region and promoting tourist destinations in Phu Tho.
Major events of the festivals will take place at the Hung Kings’ Temple with incense offering ceremonies and a parade.
Competitions of sports and folk games of ethnic people in the region, as well as exhibitions of the region’s culture and paintings will also be held.

Various events to commemorate the Hung Kings’ death
A wide range of cultural and sport activities will be held in the northern province of Phu Tho to mark the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and the Hung Temple Festival in 2010.This was announced at a meeting held in Hanoi on March 10 by the organizing board of these significant events.
According to the Prime Minister’s decision, the celebration of Hung Kings’ death in 2010 will last 10 days, from April 14-23. The incense offering ceremony will take place on April 23 (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month). Other activities, including art performances, exhibitions and folk games, will he held in the Hung Temple complex and surrounding areas.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh, who is also Deputy Head of the organizing board, asked functional agencies and local authorities to make thorough preparations to commemorate the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and successfully organise the Hung Temple Festival. “Special attention must be paid to ensuring a clean and safe environment, good traffic order and social security”, he said. “Art troupes should also prepare their performance programmes carefully, with a focus on highlighting traditional cultural values”.
During the Hung Temple Festival, the 7th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival for Ethnic Groups in the Northeastern Region will also take place together with an art programme entitled “Van Lang-Thang Long-Hanoi Capital – thousand-year old history”.

Mui Ne to host International Boat Racing Festival
An International Boat Racing Festival is scheduled to take place in Phan Thiet City’s Mui Ne from October 1-4. The festival will be attended by 20 athlete groups, representatives of 20 countries.Apart from performances of boat arts, the festival also features other activities associated with boats such as showing techniques and skills of assembling boats, exhibition on boats and international seminars on managing, producing, marketing and trading boats in Asian markets.
To build up an entertainment channel for boats at international standard as well as to promote the stunning images of Mui Ne Beach and local landscapes, the festival also includes artistic performances such as music and dance shows, photo exhibitions, an installation exhibition called The Path to Paradise, a beauty pageant called The Queen of the Sea via online voting and a farewell festival to Mui Ne-Phan Thiet.

Bac Ninh Festival 2010 to be organised at national level
The Bac Ninh Festival 2010 will be held at the national level at the Kinh Bac cultural centre, said Nguyen Dang Tuc, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on April 1. Party and State leaders, representatives from ministries, agencies, embassies and Ly clan representatives from the Republic of Korea will attend the opening ceremony on April 17. The five-day festival will feature a ceremony to mark the Quan Ho singing’s recognition by UNESCO as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Other highlights of the festival will include the 20th annual Quan Ho singing contest as well as wrestling, badminton and other games.
A trade fair, exhibitions of cultural artifacts, paintings, sculptures and photos and other activities to mark the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relation will be held during the festival.

During the festival, cooking demonstrations will be held on the beaches.
The organising board hopes the festival will become an annual traditional event in Vung Tau Province and will be recognised as a Guinness world record in terms of the largest space for a gastronomy festival.

The Hung Temple Festival 2010 will be held across the country in the most spectacular way so far, with various activities, including large-scale art performances and the participation of senior Party and State officials.A big incense offering ceremony for Hung Kings believed to be the founders of the Vietnamese nation will be held at 7am on April 23 (or the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month) in the northern midland province of Phu Tho. Similar ceremonies will also take place in every other province and centrally-run city at local temples.
The opening ceremony of this great cultural festival will coincide with the beginning of the seventh Cultural, Sports and Tourist Festival for ethnic groups in the Northeast on April 14, with performances by artists from Phu Tho and several other provinces as well as national theatre groups.
In the spotlight at the historic Den Hung relic complex will be a special arts programme in celebration of the coming 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, together with folk games, a Chung (square) cake wrapping contest, a marital arts show, and a fireworks display.
Many other activities such as exhibitions, sports and tourism will take place continuously throughout the 10-day festival in Viet Tri City and the Den Hung complex.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son says that the number of overseas Vietnamese returning home for the occasion is expected to triple or even quadruple.
Ready for the event
Phu Tho Province has completed all the basic preparatory work in order to hold the approaching Hung Temple Festival and the Sports and Culture Festival for ethnic groups.
Before the events, numerous construction projects surrounding the relic site are being spruced up to welcome this significant festival. Van Anh, an official from the Hung Temple’s management board, says that the board is restoring and preserving relic sites in order to maintain the original architecture of the Hung Temple.
This year’s festival, which will last until April 23, is expected to welcome about five million pilgrims.
The provincial authorities are working closely with various agencies to ensure security and traffic safety for the visitors.

Animated festivities to open in Quang Nam and Thanh Hoa
To mark the 50 years of friendship between Quang Nam and Thanh Hoa (March 12, 1960-2010), the two provinces will host many artistic and cultural programs.From March 24 to 27, the “Thanh Hoa’s Days in Quang Nam” program will feature performances of Lam Son tuong troupe with a tuong music show, traditional Dong Son bronze casting and folk rituals.
The “Quang Nam’s Days in Thanh Hoa” program will include music shows, photo exhibitions, relics and craft products featuring typical cultural features of Quang Nam Province.
Apart from artistic performances, some economic agreements will be signed between enterprises of the two provinces.

HCMC food and tourism festival under way
The Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2010 opened on April 8, featuring more than 150 pavilions from travel companies, hotels and airlines both in and outside the city. The festival is the first in a series of planned cultural and tourism activities to celebrate 35 years of the South’s liberation and the national reunification (April 30) and the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
It is designed to promote tourism development by introducing visitors to a wide range of culinary specialities and attractive tourist destinations, as well as helping the participating businesses seek partners.
This year will mark the first time an art parade will be held within the framework of the festival, drawing the participation of 80 tourism units and over 1,000 amateur artists.
Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy special dishes and performances from southern cities and provinces.
The annual festival is expected to attract 100,000 visitors.

Halong Tourism Festival to kick off next month
The Halong Tourism Festival 2010 will take place in the northern border province of Quang Ninh from April 29 to May 2. Visitors to the event will have an opportunity to participate in various activities, such as a beauty pageant, a photo exhibition of Halong Bay, a concert, boat-racing, a music performance and fireworks display.A trade fair and an annual conference on the world’s most beautiful bays will also be held.
Currently, Quang Ninh Province is completing preparatory work for the festival in many resort areas, such as Bay Chay Beach and Mong Cai border gate. The province has invested nearly VND40 billion to build a large stage at Bay Chay Beach as a major venue for the opening ceremony of the festival.
Halong Bay has been twice recognised by UNESCO as the World Heritage for its natural beauty and geology.

City plans for Tourism Day
Entrepreneurs and tourism promoters have registered 136 booths at this year’s annual HCMC Tourism Day which will take place at 23/9 Park in downtown HCMC between April 8 and 11.The event will feature a travel fair, a food festival and a tourism photo exhibition among other activities.
Nguyen Bao Anh, Deputy Head of tourism promotion at the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told that the organizer targeted 150 booths for this year’s event, 10% more than last year.
The event will focus on attracting local travelers by giving travel service providers an opportunity to promote their services directly, especially for the summer season.
The organizers expect 100,000 people will join HCMC Tourism Day to book tours and other tourism services.
“The event will promote new products for the summer travel season, promotion tours, and lucky draws to encourage more local people to travel,” the organizer said.
Anh added that the event had been moved from the Dam Sen Culture Park in District 11 to a more convenient venue in downtown HCMC to make it easier for visitors to join.
The department is inviting foreign tourism representative offices from Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines to join the event too.
The organizer will spend more than VND4.2 billion on the sixth event. Nearly VND1.3 billion will come from the city’s tourism promotion budget.

Various events to celebrate Hung Kings’ death anniversary
The Hung Temple Festival 2010 and the celebration of the death anniversary of the Hung Kings will be hosted at Hung Temple in Phu Tho Province from April 14 to 23 with a wide range of activities featuring national characters and typical cultural features of each region.The festival will coincide with the 7th culture, sports and tourism festival for north-eastern provinces at the Hung Temple Complex from April 14 to 17 with the participation of Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang. Tourists will see exhibitions on craft products, Vietnamese calligraphy performances and flower lanterns released on Khuon Muoi Lake and Bach Hac River.
The main activity will be an incense burning ritual to worship the Hung Kings on April 23. The festivals will also mark the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi so there will be music, dance shows and outdoor photo exhibitions from April 14 to 28. There will be a boat race on the Lo River on April 22, banh chung and banh giay (glutinous rice cake) making contests on April 19 and a fireworks display in Viet Tri City at 10 p.m. on April 22.
Another festival will take place in Phu Tho to boost cooperation in tourism between Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces and to promote the tourism potentialities of the three provinces via photo exhibitions.
